GTM model

GTM model : A GTM model is the overall structure of how customers discover, buy and grow with your product, combining motion, pricing and channels.

GTM model is a broader term than GTM motion. The motion describes how a buyer becomes a customer (self-serve, sales-assisted, or creator-led discovery). The model adds pricing structure, the channels that feed the motion, and who on the team is responsible for each step.

Common models for AI startups: self-serve with usage based pricing and discovery on X; a limited starter tier with a team plan upgrade; sales-led with pilots and annual contracts; and hybrids, where self-serve brings in users and a sales layer handles larger accounts. Each has different requirements for onboarding, team and cash, and switching later is possible but slow, so choose deliberately.

Pick a model that matches how your buyer prefers to buy and what it costs you to serve them. AI products need extra care on that second point, since inference costs can make generous plans expensive. GTM here means go to market in the business sense, not Google Tag Manager.

egExample
